Last year we did one of those advent calenders you buy at the store that have little pieces of cheap chocolate behind doors that you eat every night. This year I wanted to reduce the sugar intake while still celebrating the days leading up to christmas. So, we came up with an advent activity chain.
I typed out 25 activities on paper that had a holiday design on the back.
We cut the paper with activities printed on them into strips
We made paper chains and numbered the chains.
Every night we rip off one of the chains and do the activities.
Activities like: Eat by candlelight...Go ice skating...Make cookies...We've done MOST of the activities. Although there was one night when I was sick, we didn't make potatoe latkes and applesauce. But, so far, it's been fun. I think we'll do it again next year.
