well, it was raining today and so we pulled out a Monopoly game that one of my friends had brought over. I was hesitant to use it with my little group of four year olds because... it takes too long.... it's too complex...it's too "commercial"... I have seen other "Junior" versions of games and haven't like them at all. Buuuuuut Adi had noticed it in the corner the other day and was begging me to play it so we did. And I loved it, every little part of it.
First of all the board is small and simple. And the properties tell about different kinds of dinosaurs. The property cards tell all about that dinosaur. It was really important for everyone to know if they had just bought a meat eater or plant eater. One person decided to just buy meat eaters which proved to be an interesting strategy.
The money was fun for everyone to count out, exchange, use to BUY things with, have to pay out and make change with. What a great math activity!
Taking turns was important. Bartering happened. Social networking.....
The game didn't take too long to finish...
We learned A LOT about dinosaurs. Some people definitely left with a peaked interest in dinosaurs.
We had fun. And that rainy day? Zoomed away.

ReplyDeletewhat a great game , my 4yr olds would love this too !
ReplyDeleteOOOh! Princess LOVES playing her Junior Monopoly (it's set at a theme park, and I posted about it a few weeks back on We Play), but this! THIS! Dinosaurs!! That looks awesome!! :D
ReplyDeleteWe also have a cool set of cards which have a few games included, and one is a memory game which players have to select a theme card for the cards they need to collect. The themes are plant eaters, meat eaters, air/sea dinosaurs and ... um, something else. Luckily they are also colour coded for younger players and Mumma's whose memories fail them LOL
This is a wonderful game. I am definately going to reseach where to purchase this for my nephew. Thank you so much for the post.
ReplyDeleteThere is a certain Little girl in this house who really likes dinosaurs and board games.
ReplyDeleteSo she would LOVE this!
Sounds like a great version of Monopoly. Thanks for linking to We Play :)
